The Original 100 MPH Tape
This is the military-issue cloth duct tape that soldiers nicknamed "100 mph tape" because it was said to hold on a vehicle at highway speed. Each roll is 3 inches wide by 60 yards long in olive drab (OD green), the muted military green that blends with field gear. It does the field-repair work that civilian hardware-store tape struggles with: patching torn fabric, bundling kit, sealing a cracked case, holding a dressing or a seam until a proper fix is possible.
Features
- 3 Inch Width — The 3-inch (76 mm) web covers more in a single pass than standard 2-inch tape, so you span a tear or wrap a bundle faster.
- 60 Yard Roll — Each roll runs 60 yards (about 180 feet), enough for repeated field repairs before you reach the core.
- Olive Drab Color — OD green, the flat military green that sits quietly against uniforms, packs and vehicles instead of standing out.
- Cloth-Backed Construction — A fabric scrim woven into the backing lets you tear it clean by hand across the width and gives the tape its grip and strength.
- Built To A-A-883 Standard — Made to the federal specification for pressure-sensitive cloth tape, meaning it was built to the government's published standard rather than a maker's own recipe.
- Aggressive Rubber Adhesive — The adhesive grabs on contact and holds on rough, dusty and uneven surfaces where lighter tapes let go.
- Water-Resistant Backing — The coated cloth sheds moisture, so a repair stays put in wet weather and outdoor use.
- SKILCRAFT Made In USA — Produced in the United States under the SKILCRAFT label for federal supply, carrying the D5486 marking on the core.
Issue And Build
This roll carries NSN 7510-00-890-9874, the National Stock Number the military uses to order it, and the core is labeled D5486/D5486M Type IV. It is the genuine supply-system article, not a hardware-store substitute. The cloth backing tears by hand, conforms around corners and curved surfaces, and holds a bond that general-purpose tapes cannot match, which is why it has stayed in field kits, tool bags and vehicle repair boxes for decades.
