M43 Field Cap Reproduction

This is Mil-Tec's reproduction of the US M43 field cap, the olive drab cotton cap named for its 1943 introduction. It keeps the short visor and the earflaps that fold down from inside the crown to cover the ears and the back of the neck. WWII reenactors and living historians wear it to complete a period US kit, and it also works as a plain, practical cotton cap for everyday wear and time outdoors.

• Cotton Poplin Shell — The crown is made from poplin, a tightly woven plain cotton fabric that is smooth, breathable and holds its shape.
• OD Green Colour — The cap comes in OD, short for olive drab, the muted green-brown used on US Army field clothing of the period.
• Short Stiffened Visor — A short, firm bill shades the eyes and keeps the flat profile of the wartime cap.
• Fold-Down Earflaps — The flaps tuck up out of sight inside the crown and pull down to cover the ears and the back of the neck in cold or wind.
• Wool Flannel Lining — A soft wool flannel lines the earflaps, so the side against your skin stays warm when they are down.
• Ventilation Grommets — Small metal-ringed holes in the crown let heat escape during long wear.
• Original Wartime Pattern — The panels, band and visor follow the cut of the original issue cap, so it looks right alongside other period kit.
• Period-Style Interior Tag — An aged-look label inside the crown is printed in the style of the original quartermaster contract markings.

Construction And Pattern

The cap has a panelled crown with a stitched band running around it, and contrast stitching follows the seams as on the original. The flaps are cut as one continuous piece that wraps from ear to ear around the back of the head. Inside is the period-style label along with Mil-Tec's own care tag. This is a new-made reproduction from a commercial manufacturer, not original wartime issue.
