The one with buckles was better.

Stuff tend to easily fall out of it. Washed it once and it left brown streaks on everything. Not only that, after washing, the velcro straps not longer line up with each other quite right and the material shifted.

Rothco Vintage Canvas Messenger Bag

Review byQuatez D.

Apears, while waiting to open for first use, the bag I received was switched with another similar. The cover flap width is too narrow for my use needs. The material is too supple for my want. This bag is different than bags by the same name first calendar resets purchasing.

Excellent mutipurpose bag

Review byEdgar T.

I wanted something like this since I saw Corso (Johnny Depp) in the Ninth Gate. It's not the same bag of course but pretty close. It's big but not that much and with a camera insert it becomes a camera bag for city trips. It's not impermeable so be careful or better yet make it so with beewax.

Faulty Stitching

Review byLeilah N.

I ordered this bag in January and while I loved the appearance and utility of the bag, the strap on one side has already ripped and begun to fray. I have put very little weight in the bag (<5 lbs) and I have not put it through any other tough conditions. At the rate it is fraying, the bag will be unusable within the next few days. Disappointed with the quality control on this product.

Hobbit bag

Review byTyquesha Z.

**Update at bottom**

I wanted a sturdy diaper bag that didn't scream "dIaPeR bAg!!!!11!", having used odd fabric'd garish colored bags with my first two children that broke miserably by the toddler years. Just, wanted a regular bag I would possibly carry anyway if I wasn't carting around baby supplies. I just received this and said baby isn't out until early October so I should update in, say, 6 months of course, but I'm ridiculously happy with this purchase. I ordered brown and it's the perfect shade of chocolate, Earthy brown. If the zombie apocalypse starts while I'm toting diapers, I'm confident that I could stash this in the bracken and have it blend in with surrounding nature. As for room - my husband was nervous that I might accidentally order a bag stingy on the storage and his fears will be relieved. The flap unvelcroes to reveal a main compartment that any Hobbit would be proud to take on an unexpected adventure. I'm estimating the storage capacity at 10 diapers, a pack of wipes, 700 extra outfits, the kitchen sink, 9 cats and a Galapagos turtle. Plus it has two roomy outside pockets on the front and a side pocket for a bottle...or a can of pork 'n beans for when escaping from zombies through the woods, you know. Typical baby stuff.

Synopsis: I'm feeling confident in the heavy stitching and thick canvas, the color makes my soul happy, and I am very satisfied with the storage abilities of this bag. The appearance is both dignified and rugged.

December update: This bag has fulfilled my baby gear dreams. I also used it as my suitcase for the hospital. Get this bag, go, run.

A constant companion and faithful friend!

Review byAnahy G.

I bought this bag during my freshman year of college. Just graduated after using the bag daily for four years. It saw rain, snow, and 100+ degree heat. It never let me down! Some fast facts—the bag does a surprisingly good job of keeping things dry in the rain. The size of the flap and the secondary flap lining help a lot. A Nalgene bottle DOES fit in the water bottle pocket (very snug, but it fits). There’s a really nice little zip pocket inside that can be flipped up to keep fragile things above the rest of your stuff. While I did have to patch one very small (smaller-than-a-dime-sized) hole on the bottom rear corner (where the bag rubs against my hip) at the end of the bag’s third year, the canvas is so thick that the hole didn’t grow or tear at all during the six months that it took me to get out the needle and thread. I’m buying a second one in the same color to carry to my new job for professionalism’s sake. The old bag has faded really beautifully to a slightly softer brown.

Classic, basic, well built.

Review byKenady L.

Classic, basic bag with a lot of room. Stitching seems sturdy, material is heavy but not stiff (subjectively counting that as a huge plus). If you're looking for a bunch of secure pockets, you won't find them here. The approach for this bag is open the flap, fluff the bag out and just dump everything in the vicinity of it. If you need organization, consider an insert.

This bag would benefit from a more secure close system

Review byMireille M.

This is a great bag - simple, durable, and well made. However, the velcro closure system is at odds with the rest of the bag, and seems like a compromise or afterthought. This bag would benefit from a more secure close system, such as quick-release plastic buckles. Unfortunately, there's no straps or anything by which to add these buckles myself - it would require considerable modification by a tailor.

... owned one of these for a few years and love it. It has served as an overnight bag

Review byAveri Z.

I have owned one of these for a few years and love it. It has served as an overnight bag, a range bag, and a diaper bag. I have even given a few away as gifts to musicians and teachers who also love them. They can carry a lot of stuff, are built well, and are a great price value. I'm sure I'll end up with more.

Review byKevyn X.

I love the design of this bag, useful pockets, looks great, but it's SO heavy!
This bag by itself weighs as much as anything I could put in it.
So I guess it's super durable, just not for me.

Good bag but riveted snap-on came off

Review byDaran D.

Bought the black messenger bag. Was good at first, until it went dirty. The good thing about canvass is you can throw this in the washer and it'll be fresh again. Just make sure to turn it inside out first to avoid fading.
My only issue on this bag is: one of the snap ons at one of the side pockets came off. Seems it was not riveted properly and the rivet was made of cheap materials.
Bag still in tact though and have been using it daily to and from work. Fits most laptops and my daily essentials with some room to spare.
Can't expect anything more out of it.
Like they say: they don't make them like they used to. And It seems I got what I've paid for.

The earlier version of this was a little larger and accommodate the user better. On the downside

Review byCarlon T.

I personally bought this a couple of years ago, but decide to buy a new one because the strap broke. With this recent purchase I noticed that the design has change. The belt has change to left/right. In addition, the bag seem to have shrunk in size. The earlier version of this was a little larger and accommodate the user better.

On the downside, the design is likely pushing the weight on the strap and evidently the strap would soon break too. Hopefully, it would be another few years before another repurchase. It's a good value despite it's significant flaw where the strap is grinding with the hinges to tore away the strap.

Great size, capacity

Review byLexis T.

Great size, capacity. Soft but very durable canvas. Shoulder strap is comfy and stays put. I really like the simplicity. I use it to carry camera and gear for street photography so I have a padded pouch that I slip into this bag. That way I can move the gear pouch into a different bag if I need to.
