Compact Forged Tomahawk

The Cold Steel Trench Hawk is a short, hard-use tomahawk for chopping, splitting kindling, breaching and general camp work. At 19 inches overall it rides on a pack or in a vehicle without the bulk of a full axe. The head pairs a curved cutting edge with a wedge-style spike on the back, so one tool covers both cutting and prying or piercing jobs. It suits campers, preppers and anyone who wants a tomahawk built to be used.

• Drop-Forged 1055 Carbon Steel — The head is hammered into shape from 1055 carbon steel, a medium-carbon grade chosen for toughness under impact rather than for holding a razor edge.
• Differentially Hardened Head — The edge is hardened more than the body, so it keeps its bite while the rest of the head stays tough enough to absorb heavy strikes.
• 3.5-Inch Cutting Edge — A plain, curved edge on an 8.75-inch (22 cm) head handles chopping, notching and splitting small wood.
• Wedge-Style Rear Spike — The back of the head tapers to a wedge spike for prying, piercing and breaking through material the blade should not touch.
• Polypropylene Handle — The black polypropylene handle shrugs off moisture and will not rot, swell or split the way a wooden haft can.

• Secure-Ex Sheath Included — A black Secure-Ex sheath covers both the edge and the spike and closes with a snap strap for safe carry.

Build And Carry

The forged head is fixed to the polypropylene handle with two through-fasteners, and both the head and handle are finished in black. The plain edge is easy to touch up in the field with a file or stone. The supplied Secure-Ex sheath bolts together around the full head profile, so the spike and edge stay covered when the hawk is strapped to a pack or stowed in a kit bag.
