About Browning
Browning bears the name of John Moses Browning, the most prolific firearms designer in history, who was awarded 128 patents covering 80 distinct firearm models — including the M1911 pistol, the Hi-Power, the Auto-5 shotgun, the BAR, and the M2 .50 caliber machine gun that remains in U.S. military service today. Founded in 1878 in Ogden, Utah, the Browning Arms Company is now part of the FN Herstal Group and continues to produce some of the most respected sporting firearms, safes, and accessories in the world from facilities in the United States, Japan, and Belgium.
John Moses Browning's partnership with FN Herstal, which began in 1897, is widely considered the greatest collaboration in firearms history. Browning designed firearms for Winchester, Colt, Remington, and FN, and his inventions defined the operating principles — gas operation, long recoil, short recoil, and blowback — that virtually every modern firearm is built upon. From the 1920s through the 1980s, the U.S. armed forces used Browning-designed automatic and semiautomatic weapons almost exclusively. The Winchester Model 1894 he designed was the first sporting rifle to sell over 7 million units and remains the most popular deer rifle in American history.
Browning's shotgun lineup is the heart of the brand. The Citori over-and-under — introduced in 1973 and produced by Miroku in Japan with over 70 models available — is the most popular O/U shotgun in America and dominates trap, skeet, and sporting clays competitions from local clubs to the Grand American. The A5 semi-automatic continues the legacy of the original Auto-5 with a modern inertia- driven action, and the BPS pump shotgun's bottom-ejection design makes it fully ambidextrous. In rifles, the X-Bolt 2 bolt-action delivers Browning's Feather Trigger and X-Lock scope mounting system in calibers from .22 Creedmoor to .300 Win Mag, the BAR Mk4 semi- automatic offers a redesigned gas system for centerfire hunting, and the BLR lever action brings rack-and-pinion smoothness to cartridges that traditional lever guns cannot chamber.
Browning also produces a full line of American-made pistols and gun safes. The Buck Mark .22 LR pistol — manufactured in Salt Lake City, Utah, from CNC-machined 7075-T6 aluminum — has been a favorite among target shooters and plinkers since 1985, and the 1911-380 offers an 85% scale 1911 experience in a manageable .380 ACP package. Browning safes, built by ProSteel in Utah, range from the Core Collection to the Platinum Plus series with fire protection rated at 1,750 degrees for 120 minutes — all featuring ThermaBlock insulation, pry-resistant construction, and adjustable interiors designed specifically for long gun storage.
