Gear Aid started in 1981 as McNett Corporation, founded by Duane and Nancy McNett. The company began importing rain gear, and when customers started asking how to repair those flexible waterproof suits, the McNetts developed the adhesive that became Aquaseal — the foundation of a whole line of gear-care products. Over the following decades the company grew into the go-to name for field repair, with staples like Seam Grip, Freesole, and Tenacious Tape earning a permanent place in the repair kits of backpackers, divers, hunters, and soldiers. Based in Bellingham, Washington, the company was renamed Gear Aid in the mid-2010s, consolidating all those trusted product lines under one name.
