Description
US Army Gas Mine Marker
This is a US Army field warning sign, an inverted triangle lettered GAS MINE and made to mark ground where chemical mines were laid. Red and yellow reflective sheeting keeps it readable by day and under headlights or a flashlight at night. Collectors of US military markings, reenactors and anyone building out a range, display wall or themed room will find it an authentic piece of issued kit.
Features
- Genuine US Army Issue — An original government marking sign rather than a novelty print, with the provenance collectors look for.
- Inverted Triangle Profile — The point-down triangle is the shape used for field hazard marking, so the sign reads as a warning before the lettering is legible.
- GAS MINE Legend — Bold yellow capitals across the upper red panel identify the hazard as a chemical mine.
- Retroreflective Sheeting — The face is covered in prismatic reflective film, the honeycomb-patterned material that bounces light straight back toward its source.
- Red And Yellow Color Scheme — A red field with a yellow border and a yellow band across the middle gives high contrast at a distance.
- Three Mounting Holes — Punched holes at each top corner and the center let you wire, screw or zip-tie the sign to a picket, fence or wall.
- Flat Sign Plate — The sign lies flat, so it frames well or hangs flush against a wall.
Original Field Marking
Signs like this were hung on perimeter wire or stakes to warn troops off a mined area, and the reflective face was meant to work in poor light as well as daylight. Because it is issued equipment, the colors, lettering and hole pattern are the Army's own, which is why it holds its appeal for collectors of minefield and CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) markings. It mounts easily with the three pre-punched holes for display or for marking a training lane.
