K98 Pull-Through Chain

This is the German Army cleaning chain for the Karabiner 98k, the standard bolt-action rifle of German forces. It is a pull-through: a flexible cleaner you drop down the barrel from the chamber end and draw out of the muzzle, so you can clean the bore without a rigid rod. Kar98k owners use it for field cleaning, and collectors use it to complete a period cleaning kit.

Issue Cleaning Kit Part

German soldiers carried the chain as part of their rifle cleaning kit, alongside the oil and brush they used to keep the Kar98k serviceable. It was sized for the rifle's 7.92x57mm bore, also known as 8mm Mauser. For reenactors and Mauser collectors, an issued chain gives a kit proper provenance, which a later copy cannot.
