Almost perfect

Review by Vivi C.

I love my maxpedition backpacks. I have several and they are pretty heavy duty. I bought this bag because I needed a lightweight bag for a trip but didn't want a beefy bag on the flight. I also was not willing to sacrifice quality or durability. This bag is nearly perfect and deserves to wear the Maxpedition label which in my mind is the best around. The good points first... It is made of different materials than you usually see on Maxpedition bags. Less military-inspired but every bit as tough. The nylon is more flexible and feels more like a canvas rucksack but is super strong and wear-resistant. The webbing is not the usual material they use either, it is more like a seatbelt webbing, and it's tough! I recently got snagged on a sharp exposed piece of metal...I work in an industrial environment and sharp metal edges are very common. The strap got caught and my natural instinct was to tug not realizing what I had caught on when I looked back I thought ...oh no! I think I just cut my strap! The webbing had some minor abrasion but none of the fibers were cut or torn and I weigh over 250lbs so I put some weight behind it, it's tough material.

The bag is smaller than most of my other maxpedition bags but it is efficient with its layout and I can fit just as much as I can in my Kodiak gear slinger in this tiny bag. It also has a dedicated laptop pocket with padding which is another big reason I got it. It also has a creative duffle bag zipper that allows you to lift the front flap and unzip the bag as if it were a duffle bag.

Now the problems with the bag. If you have items in the front pocket it makes the main zipper difficult to zip close because the front of the bag keeps flopping open. Also, the shoulder straps are very floppy. I am used to my other bags having straps that are stout and keep their shape so it always slides on easily. This bag has floppy straps so once I slide my first arm though I sometimes struggle to get my other arm through as the strap flops around while I fumble around looking for it behind me. Minor quibbles to most people probably but as a maxpedion fanboy, I think I am more critical because of the history of nearly perfect products I have bought from them.
