These Rothco shorts are cut on the BDU pattern, short for Battle Dress Uniform, the US military field uniform whose pocket layout most cargo clothing still copies. They are built for hot-weather days when you still need to carry things: range sessions, hikes, paintball and airsoft games. The Midnight Digital camo is a pixelated print in navy, slate blue and near-black, darker and more subdued than woodland or desert patterns.

• 55/45 Cotton-Poly Twill — A blend of 55% cotton and 45% polyester in a twill weave, the tight diagonal weave used on work wear because it resists abrasion.
• Six-Pocket BDU Layout — Two front slash pockets, two rear flap pockets and two side cargo pockets give you room for a phone, wallet, keys and small gear.
• Bellowed Cargo Pockets — The side cargos have pleated edges that expand outward, so bulkier items fit without pulling the fabric tight against your leg.
• Flap-Covered Rear Pockets — Both back pockets close under a buttoned flap to keep a wallet secure while you move.
• Button Fly — A button closure in place of a zipper, as on the original BDU trousers, with fewer parts to jam or fail.
• Adjustable Waist Tabs — Side tabs cinch the waistband in, letting you fine-tune the fit without relying only on a belt.
• Reinforced Seat — Extra fabric at the seat adds wear resistance where shorts take the most rubbing from kneeling, sitting and climbing.

Fabric And Fit

The cotton in the blend keeps the shorts breathable in heat, and the polyester helps them hold their shape and dry faster than all-cotton fabric. Rothco cuts the pattern with a relaxed BDU fit through the seat and thigh, ending above the knee. Sizes run from Small through 3XL, and the waist tabs give a little extra adjustment within each size.
