Kaolin Clotting Gauze

QuikClot Advanced Clotting Gauze from Adventure Medical Kits is a sterile 3 in x 4 ft dressing treated with kaolin, a clay mineral that helps blood clot faster. It is made to stop bleeding from superficial wounds, minor cuts and abrasions while you get to medical care. The flat pouch fits in a first aid kit, range bag, glovebox or day pack.

Using It on a Wound

Open the pouch, place the gauze on the wound and press directly over the source of bleeding for 3 minutes or until it stops; a heavier bleed may take more than one dressing. Wrap to hold the gauze in place, then remove it gently once bleeding has stopped, rinsing with water if it sticks. Do not leave it on longer than 24 hours, apply fresh gauze if the wound re-bleeds, and seek immediate medical attention. It is for external use only, should be kept away from the eyes, and is no longer sterile if the pouch is opened or damaged.
