Romanian Issue Canteen

This is the Romanian Army's field water set: an aluminum canteen in an olive felt cover, with an aluminum cup that fits over the top and straps in place. It carries about a liter of water and gives you a drinking cup in the same compact package. Collectors, Eastern Bloc reenactors and campers who like plain, proven kit all have a use for it.

Features

• Aluminum Canteen Body — The bottle holds approximately 1 liter (about 32 oz) and seals with a black plastic screw cap.
• Matching Aluminum Cup — The cup sits upside down over the neck and cap of the bottle, so the set packs and carries as one unit.
• Folding Butterfly Handles — Two wire handles riveted to a bracket on the cup fold flat against its side for storage and swing out to give you a grip.
• Olive Drab Felt Cover — A thick felt sleeve wraps the bottle and keeps the bare aluminum from knocking against other gear.
• Three Snap Closures — Metal snaps along the sides hold the cover closed around the bottle.
• Leather Retaining Strap — A leather strap with a metal roller buckle runs over the cup and through its handles, locking cup and bottle together.
• Webbing Strap Keeper — An olive webbing tab stitched to the cover holds the leather strap flat against the body.

Cold War Romanian Kit

Romania issued this canteen during the Cold War, roughly the 1950s through the 1970s, and the set is government issue, not a commercial copy. The original specification uses an all-aluminum bottle and cup, a plastic cap, and a cover of felt, leather and metal hardware held shut with side snaps. For anyone building an authentic Warsaw Pact field load, it is the correct period water set.
