The aluminum construction is notably lighter than the stainless steel USGI version about 2 oz less per cup which matters when you're doing backcountry trips. The butterfly handle is identical in design, and it pairs perfectly with a standard US 1-quart canteen, so there's no compatibility issue like some people worry about.
