Russian Army Emergency Rescue Blanket

Russian Medical Rescue Wrap

This is the Russian Army's emergency rescue blanket, labeled as the "NM" medical wrap (nakidka meditsinskaya). It is a sheet of reflective metallized film that you wrap around a casualty to hold in body heat. The printed instructions also cover a second use: rigging it as a shade over someone in the heat. It folds flat, so it fits in a first aid kit, a pack lid or a vehicle glovebox without taking up much room.

Features

• Reflective Metallized Film — The silver, foil-like surface reflects radiated body heat back toward the person wrapped in it.
• NM Medical Wrap Designation — The label names it the "NM" medical wrap, the Russian military's term for this piece of casualty-care kit.
• Cold Protection Method — The label explains the wrap: spread it label side up, lay the casualty diagonally, then cover the legs, wrap the torso, cover the head and secure the sheet in several places.
• Heat Shade Use — For heat protection, the instructions say to rig the sheet as a canopy over the casualty with the label side facing up.
• Russian-Language Instruction Label — A red cross emblem and step-by-step directions in Cyrillic are printed on the label.
• Compact Folded Pack — The sheet folds into a thin, flat packet that slips into a medical pouch or bag pocket.
• Genuine Russian Army Issue — This is original government-issued medical kit, not a commercial copy.

Original Issue Detail

The NM wrap comes from Russian military medical supply, and the label shows how it was meant to be used in the field: one method against cold, another against heat. The Cyrillic instructions and red cross marking make it a good fit for collectors of Russian kit and for reenactors building an accurate medic's load. It also works as a plain emergency blanket for anyone who wants a light heat-retaining sheet in their gear.
