The Smith & Wesson M&P Compact OTF is an assisted-opening out-the-front automatic knife built around a 1.9-inch AUS-8 spear point blade and a lightweight aluminum handle. A thumb slide drives the blade out the front and retracts it with one hand, while a top-mounted safety and hardened glass-breaker pommel add real-world utility. At just 5.6 inches overall and 3.5 inches closed, it carries flat on a deep-carry pocket clip and keeps the blade under the 2-inch threshold for California compliance. Snappy, solid, hard to beat at this priceBeen carrying OTF knives for about 8 years and Ive spent anywhere from $40 to $400 on them. This S&W compact sits right in the sweet spot for a budget daily carry. Came in a simple clamshell pack, blade was centered and sharp right out of the box, deployment action was snappy and positive with no wobble or side play. The aluminum handle feels solid in the hand, not that hollow cheap feeling you get from some of the no-name import OTFs on Amazon. Im not going to pretend its a Microtech but for $35-40 it does everything a carry OTF should do. Already grabbed a second one to keep in the truck.
