US Army Base Flag

Government-Issue Base Flag

This is a full-size US national flag made under government contract and stocked through the military supply system under NSN 8345-00-753-3231. At 17 feet wide by 8 feet 11-3/8 inches tall (about 5.2 x 2.7 m), it is sized to fly from a tall installation flagpole, where a standard 3 x 5 foot flag would look lost. It suits anyone with a large pole to fill, and collectors who want a flag with documented government-issue markings.

Features

• 17 x 8 ft 11-3/8 in Size — The flag measures 17 feet on the fly and 8 feet 11-3/8 inches on the hoist, the side that runs along the pole.
• Nylon Construction — The label specifies nylon, a lightweight fabric that lifts in a moderate breeze and dries quickly after rain.
• Sewn Stripes — The thirteen red and white stripes are individually stitched together, with visible seams between each stripe.
• 50-Star Blue Canton — The canton, the blue field in the upper corner by the pole, carries the full fifty stars.
• Canvas Heading — A heavy cream canvas strip reinforces the hoist edge, which takes the most strain on a halyard.
• Metal Hoist Hardware — A metal fitting at the heading lets you attach the flag to the halyard, the rope that raises and lowers it.
• NSN Marked Label — The heading is printed with the National Stock Number 8345-00-753-3231, the code the military uses to order this exact item.
• Contract Markings — The label also shows contract number SPE1C1-15-M-0703 and the maker, Dawn's Early Light Flags, LLC.

Issue Specification

The printed heading identifies the item as "Flag, National, USA" in nylon, size 8' 11-3/8" x 17', made by Dawn's Early Light Flags under a government supply contract. Because it is a cataloged government item, every flag under this NSN is made to the same specification rather than to a retailer's interpretation of a large flag. Check that your pole is tall enough and your halyard rated for a flag of this size before flying it.
