In addition to our emergency kit, we use this when our neighbors get the birds or our critters get ants. It's always good for entertainment as well. When they all start to run away, it is a hoot. If you blow hard enough you will scare off some of the more stubborn varmints. And when the yard needs attention and I can't think of the lawnmower to do it, the pests come and help. They run, then they walk, the kids have a blast chasing them. Just remember, they do bite and you don't want to mess with a wild animal. Just know it's only when the pests are piled on top of each other, so if one runs away it might be a minute or two before another shows up to the aid of his pals in distress. Bought one of these as a kid, and I was going to test it, but it is actually really loud. I will be using this at my internship and maybe even on my commute, but it seems sturdy and it is good and loud.

We live in an area with many bears, coyotes, bobcats, and other varmints. This lightweight whistle will easily be carried on a hike and could save your or your pet's life if you are attacked by a vicious predator. It seems to be a good, well-made emergency whistle. The small size and light weight make it an easy addition to a pack or backpack. The only thing to be aware of is that the sound it makes is high-pitched. It will carry for some distance, so it could be a problem for anyone with sensitive hearing.

Love it! It has a loud but higher pitched shrill sound which is the kind of sound I prefer. It can be blown softly and still get heard in a noisy area, but not so loud that it hurts the ears. If I ever have to go out on an ocean or coastal voyage, I will carry one of these for sure. You can carry a life vest and a few flotation rafts and some dry food and enough to drink for a few days, but there is nothing you can carry that will make up for your navigation equipment failing you. I carry this as part of my everyday gear. For the small size, it makes a heck of a loud noise. I wish they had one of these when I was on an overnight training exercise when I broke my flashlight. My partner didn't hear my hand slap on the roof of his foxhole when I tapped on it to wake him. (it was so dark we were doing combat patrol style inocement bunkers in Louisiana, not my best moment). If this thing could be made a bit smaller I would be very happy. It would make it easier to store, I don't know how I could use it to cook on it, it is smaller than my fingers and I think I could put it inside a pocket with my fingers. Maybe someone should do a challenge for a contest and see if anyone can put it inside their front pockets. This size and length seems perfect for everything but one thing, making the holes for it smaller would make it look like an old railroad bell and I think I would be happy if they made the length a few inches longer. This one works well. If I ever need a whistle, it is on my list. It could have come in handy for an ice climbing accident I had. I had a tool slip on my crampon and slip my left hand as I held on with my right. I did get my arm out but had my arm stuck in the flippers as I fell 15 feet and then slid down a slope another 15 feet. (this happened about 1988 in Banff Canada so a bit before your time if you are still writing these up) My other hand went through my caribou jacket

It's good for the price and is very loud! Perfect for a emergency situation

I purchased this to have a louder alarm for those who live on our land in a recreational vehicle that can't get to sleep. They will still hear this indoors. I think it is great for safety as well as just a sound alarm. A loud screech and good size makes this stand out from the others I have purchased for sleep. Very good purchase.

Love the product, love the look, works as expected. What i didn't like is it comes on a wrist band that max is 6 ft in length. So if you want to wear this whistle around your neck this is not the whistle for you. It comes as standard. But if you can handle the band or just get one of those little glows from Harbor Freight (I think they cost $1) that will extend it to 8 ft. it will work. If you need a good inexpensive compact super loud emergency use of your voice this is the product for you. I just think a bit more on the sales page of info. on what you are really getting

This whistle works well and has been used to get attention when I'm out on my boat. It is loud enough to be heard over the motor but not so loud as to cause hearing damage.

These are great whistles and I use them every day on my job as a truck driver. They are loud and easy to blow in cold weather or when you have gloves on.

I have had this whistle for about 2 years now and it has worked great! It is loud and you can blow into it without having to use your mouth. I would recommend this product.
