Australian Pattern Machete

Condor Tool & Knife builds this machete on the Australian Army pattern: a straight, broad blade that widens toward a squared, clipped tip, which puts weight forward for chopping. It is made for clearing brush, cutting saplings, limbing deadfall and trail work, and it carries on a belt in its own canvas sheath. The blade is marked "Australian Army" on one side and "Condor El Salvador" on the other.

Features

• 1075 High Carbon Steel — A plain carbon steel that takes a keen edge, is easy to resharpen in the field, and flexes under impact instead of chipping.
• 12.75-Inch Blade — The blade measures 12.75 in (32.4 cm) within an overall length of 18.5 in (47 cm), long enough for real chopping reach while staying manageable on a belt.
• 0.18-Inch Blade Stock — At 0.18 in (4.5 mm) thick, the blade is heavier than a thin cane machete and better suited to wood.
• Convex Edge Grind — The edge curves outward toward the cutting line rather than tapering flat, which leaves more steel behind the edge to resist rolling on hard cuts.
• Black Coated Finish — A black coating covers the blade flats to slow rust on the carbon steel, with the sharpened edge left bare.
• Full Tang Construction — The steel runs the full length of the handle, visible between the scales, so the grip cannot work loose from the blade under heavy use.
• Walnut Handle With Brass Rivets — Two walnut scales are pinned to the tang with brass rivets and shaped with a finger choil and flared butt to keep the hand from sliding forward or off the end.
• Lined Lanyard Hole — A brass-lined hole through the butt lets you fit a wrist cord so the machete stays with you if your grip slips.
• Canvas Sheath With Leather Belt Loop — The tan canvas sheath has a leather belt loop with a snap retention strap over the handle, a snap-flap front pocket and a leather-reinforced tip with a cord tie-down.
• Made In El Salvador — Manufactured by Condor Tool & Knife at its El Salvador works, as labelled on the sheath.

Build And Carry

Carbon steel will rust if it is put away wet, so wipe the blade dry and give the edge a light coat of oil after use. The walnut handle benefits from the occasional rub of oil as well. The sheath rides on a standard belt through its leather loop, and the paracord at the tip can be tied around a leg or pack strap to stop the sheath swinging while you walk.
