The Chiappa 1911-22 Tactical is a modernized replica of John Browning's original design from over 100 years ago. It reproduces faithfully each of the components characteristic of the M1911, including the familiar placement of each of its fire controls, while adding a fresh, tactical take for the shooters of today. The major difference, however, is that the Chiappa 1911-22 Tactical is chambered for the .22 LR cartridge. As such, it is great for use as a tactical training platform considering the inexpensive initial cost of the pistol and the inexpensive costs associated with .22 LR ammunition.

Originally founded by Ezechiele Chiappa as Armi Sport in 1958, Chiappa Firearms is an Italian-owned and operated arms manufacturer based in Brescia, Italy. Bringing a wealth of knowledge from his work with a manufacturer in Valtrompia, Chiappa's natural technical abilities gave him the skills necessary to form his own company, a company that would produce only one pistol for its first four years before growing into the respected industrial corporation that it is today.

Today Chiappa Firearms is just one component of the Chiappa Group, the aforementioned industrial corporation that includes Armi Sport (replica firearms, target shooting and defense), Kimar (blank, signal and small-caliber firearms), ACP (laser training systems) and Costa (metal surface treatment). It is still family-owned and reliant upon innovative design work and modern manufacturing, two traits that Chiappa believes are key to providing the world with high-quality firearms like the Chiappa 1911-22 Tactical.

As noted the Chiappa 1911-22 Tactical is a modernized replica of the M1911 that is chambered for the .22 LR cartridge rather than the .45 ACP cartridge. Recently, these replicas have become more and more prevalent as their market continues to grow. Whether they are unable or unwilling to spend the steep initial investments that these replicas' counterparts beg, or they just prefer to train on a platform that will allow them to do so at a much higher volume, shooters are turning to .22 LR replicas more often than not. Chiappa Firearms seems to have noticed this trend and responded with several .22 LR replicas in kind.

The Chiappa 1911-22 Tactical features a five-inch barrel (1:16 inch twist) alongside an overall length of approximately 8 1/2 inches – dimensions that are almost identical to the MIL-SPEC M1911. Though several models of the Chiappa 1911-22 exist, the model for sale today is the Tactical model. As such, its matte blue alloy frame is joined by two-piece wood grips and other steel components that combine to give the pistol an overall weight of approximately two pounds. Moreover, it includes a fixed front sight with a Novak-style rear sight as well as an ambidextrous thumb safety that resides in the same familiar position as it would on a MIL-SPEC M1911. Moreover, the Chiappa 1911-22 Tactical boasts a threaded muzzle for those who prefer to outfit their pistols with various muzzle devices.
