Every flashlight has the same flaw: it only works if you can find it first. Glow Rhino, out of Metro Detroit, builds everyday carry gear around tritium instead — a self-powered light source that needs no batteries, no charging, and no switch. The founders spent close to thirty years adapting tritium for the firearms and defense industries before turning it on the things people actually carry every day. Their own line for it is hard to improve on: the job doesn’t quit at sunset, and neither does our gear.
We stock both of Glow Rhino’s glow fobs. The Spark Fob is the minimalist: a single sealed tritium vial throwing a constant blue glow from a polycarbonate body that is 0.83" long and weighs under a gram, with a pointed tip that doubles as a glass breaker. The Tritium Ember FOB steps up to a green lamp — the brightest phosphor colour — in a 360° impact-resistant case, also waterproof, also with a glass-breaker tip. Both keep working for well over a decade; tritium’s half-life is roughly twelve years, so they fade slowly rather than dying on you.
If the word tritium makes you hesitate: the glow is radioluminescence, not the isotope glowing on its own. Tritium gas sits sealed in a phosphor-lined vial, and the phosphor decides the colour. It emits only soft beta radiation, which cannot pass through the outer layer of your skin — the same reason tritium has lit watch dials, gun sights, and military compasses for decades.
