Shooting & Gunsmithing Since 1878
Few names in American shooting go back as far as Lyman — a Connecticut company that has been building sights, reloading gear, and tools since 1878. At Keep Shooting we carry the bench essentials: the 68-piece Master Gunsmith Tool Kit with hollow-ground bits that won’t chew up a screw, and the precise Digital Trigger Pull Gauge. The right tools to work on your guns the right way.
About Lyman
Lyman is one of the oldest names in American shooting, and the two tools we carry at Keep Shooting are pure bench-craft — a complete gunsmith screwdriver kit and a precision trigger gauge. Find them with the rest of our gunsmith tools.
An American Institution Since 1878
Lyman got its start in 1878, when William Lyman grew frustrated with the sights of the day and designed his No. 1 Tang Sight — a large-aperture peep that let more light reach a hunter’s eye. It was a hit; he opened a factory in Middlefield, Connecticut and patented seventeen sights before his death in 1896. The company expanded far beyond sights, acquiring the Ideal Loading Tool Company in 1925 to become one of the dominant names in reloading — presses, dies, scales, and bullet molds still core to the catalog today. More than 140 years on, Lyman remains a privately held Connecticut manufacturer, and that long bench-tool pedigree is exactly what you’re buying into here.
The Gunsmithing Tools We Carry
The Master Gunsmith Tool Kit is a 68-piece set built around hollow-ground bits — flat-ground tips that fill a firearm’s screw slot completely so you don’t bugger the heads on a nice gun — in slotted, hex, Phillips, and Torx patterns, plus specialty bits for Weaver scope rings, Glock sights, and 1911 bushings. It’s the one kit that handles most jobs in our gun parts catalog. The Digital Trigger Pull Gauge takes the guesswork out of trigger work: strain-gauge electronics measure from 1 ounce to 12 pounds in tenth-ounce steps, a self-centering roller keeps the readings honest, and a ten-pull averaging mode gives you a true number to tune to. Round out the bench with cleaning gear from our gun-cleaning selection and more tools from Wheeler Engineering. Every Lyman order ships from Keep Shooting with fast handling and our satisfaction guarantee.
