NVA AK Field Cleaning Kit

This is the compact cleaning kit East German soldiers carried to keep their Kalashnikov-pattern rifles running in the field. Everything packs into a flat steel tin small enough for a pouch or the rifle's buttstock compartment area, so the owner can clean the bore, oil the action and clear fouling away from a workbench. AK owners use it as a working field kit, and collectors and reenactors want it as an original piece of Nationale Volksarmee (NVA) equipment.

• Hinged Steel Tin — A black-finished steel case with an oval profile, ribbed body and snap-shut hinged lid holds the whole kit.
• Braided Pull-Through Cord — A pull-through is a flexible cord you drop down the barrel and pull back out, dragging a brush or patch through the bore without a rigid rod.
• Weighted Steel Drift — A pointed steel rod with an eye for the cord adds weight to carry the pull-through down the barrel and doubles as a small punch.
• Brass Bore Brush — A twisted-wire brush with brass bristles and a loop end scrubs carbon and copper fouling from the bore.
• Mixed-Bristle Brush — A second twisted-wire brush combines brass and nylon bristles for scrubbing and wiping in a single pass.
• Hair Bristle Brush — A soft brush set in a metal ferrule on a wire shank reaches into the receiver and around the bolt carrier to sweep out loose grime.
• Slotted Steel Tool — A blackened steel tool with a slotted body is included for field work on the rifle.
• Green Metal Oil Bottle — A small OD green oiler with a screw cap and attached wire applicator carries lubricant for the moving parts.

The kit comes from East Germany's Nationale Volksarmee, the national army of the GDR, which fielded its own Kalashnikov-pattern rifles.
