NVA Uniform Jacket

This is a uniform jacket of the National People's Army (NVA), the armed forces of East Germany from 1956 until reunification in 1990. It is cut as a formal tunic with open lapels, collar tabs and decorated cuffs, the jacket a soldier wore over a shirt and tie rather than in the field. Collectors of Cold War and Eastern Bloc uniforms want it, and so do reenactors and film and theater costume departments that need period-correct East German dress.

Features

• Wool And Nylon Construction — The jacket is made from wool and nylon, which gives it the weight and structure expected of a formal uniform tunic.
• Stone Grey Color — The cloth is the grey-green shade the NVA used across its uniforms, easy to tell apart from the field grey of West German or earlier German dress.
• Open Lapel Collar — Notched lapels are made to be worn open over a shirt and tie, as the uniform was intended.
• Collar Litzen — Each collar point carries a Litzen tab, a pale braided bar on a dark backing, which was standard NVA collar insignia.
• Piped Cuffs With Insignia — Both cuffs have a line of light piping and a pair of matching Litzen patches.
• Four-Button Front — Four silver-tone metal buttons close the front, matching the buttons on the pocket flaps.
• Four Flapped Pockets — Two pleated chest pockets and two larger lower pockets each close with a buttoned flap.
• Full Grey Lining — A smooth grey lining covers the inside of the body, so the jacket slides on easily over a shirt.
• East German Size Label — A sewn-in label inside the collar gives the size in the original East German sizing system.

This jacket was made for and issued to the East German military, so the cut, insignia and hardware all match the original specification. The Litzen and cuff piping are part of the jacket as it was supplied. A display or reenactment uniform built around it will be authentic, which no reproduction can offer. The size is marked in East German sizing, so check the label size against your usual chest measurement before ordering.
