He wont take it off nowI ordered this East German Strichtarn camo jacket for my husband because hes been wanting something lightweight for the summer and I thought the pattern looked intresting on him. The packaging was neat and it came faster than I expected maybe three days after I placed the order which was a nice surprise. I served 22 years in the Army and Ive seen my share of camo patterns but this strichtarn stuff is different its got those straight vertical lines running through it which is kind of unique. My husband basically took it over the minute I unwrapped it hes been wearing it out to the garden and to walk the dog every evening since. The material feels like itll hold up its that lighter cotton feel not heavy at all which is what you want for summer. The pockets are deep enough for his gloves and whatever else he shoves in there and the buttons all seem sturdy enough. I tried it on once and its comfortable but like I said he wears it more than I do.
Really glad I picked this up the quality is better than I thought itd be for the price.

Love itI bought this mostly as a display piece and to wear out hiking but I ended up wearing it WAY more than I planned, its actually really functional and the fabric is heavier than you'd think for a summer jacket which I personally like. The camo pattern is just so different from anything modern and people always ask me about it when Im out on the trail. Mine had what looked like a small field repair near one of the lower pockets but it was neatly done and honestly kind of cool knowing this thing probably saw REAL use.
Super happy with this purchase.

Better Than Expected ConditionThe rain drop pattern is crisp with good contrast between the olive drab base and the darker vertical dashes... not faded out like some of the stuff you see on Etsy or eBay where it's basically a solid green blob. Mine had all original buttons intact and the cotton-poly blend fabric still feels substantial, no thin spots or dry rot. For context, the Strichtarn pattern was adopted by the NVA in 1965 to replace the older Blumentarn, and this one based on the cut and pocket config (4 pockets, concealed arm pocket buttons) looks to be a later production, probably late 70s or early 80s. European sizing runs a bit different than US so measure yourself... don't just go by your normal shirt size.

Mine arrived in essentially unissued condition with that distinct old warehouse smell that tells you it's legit 1980s stock. The Strichtarn rain drop pattern is crisp and clear, not faded like some surplus, and the cotton-poly blend is surprisingly sturdy. All buttons were intact and the fabric feels substantial. For $24, you're getting a piece of Cold War history that actually fits modern sizing.

Cool pieceThese old east german surplus items are drying up fast and once there gone thats it, nobodys making more Strichtarn jackets in a factory that dosent exist anymore in a country that dosent exist anymore lol. Condition on mine was basically unissued, still had that old warehouse smell to it.
