Czech M60 Canteen

Czech Army Field Canteen

The M60 is the Czech Army's issue water canteen from the Warsaw Pact era. It is an aluminum bottle sewn into a felted wool cover and held by a black leather harness. It carries a day's drinking water on a belt or pack strap, and it suits hikers, campers and reenactors who want authentic Eastern Bloc kit in place of a generic plastic bottle. Collectors of Czech and Warsaw Pact field gear will recognize the pattern immediately.

Features

• Aluminum Water Bottle — The olive drab aluminum body is light and holds up to knocks better than a glass or thin plastic bottle.
• 0.8 Liter Capacity — Holds about 27 fl oz, a sensible amount for a half-day walk or a shift on the range.
• Felted Wool Cover — A snug wool jacket, trimmed with leather edging and closed with snaps, insulates the water and keeps the metal from rattling against other gear.
• Black Leather Harness — Riveted leather straps wrap the cover vertically and horizontally, with a buckled fastener for attaching the canteen to a belt or pack.
• Tethered Screw Stopper — A cord ties the stopper to the neck so it cannot be dropped or lost while you drink, and the stopper type, cork or plastic, varies from unit to unit.
• Compact Flat Profile — At roughly 5.1 x 2.4 x 8.7 in (13 x 6 x 22 cm), the slim oval shape rides close to the hip.
• Light Carry Weight — About 11 oz (310 g) empty, so it adds little to a loaded belt.
• Genuine Czech Army Issue — Originally produced for the Czech military, giving you real provenance for a collection or period impression.

Original Issue Pattern

The M60 follows the classic European canteen layout: a flattened aluminum flask, a wool cover to slow heat transfer and dampen noise, and a leather strap system rather than a clip. Cover shade varies between olive and light grey depending on the production batch, while the bottle itself is olive drab with black leather straps. Because it is government-issue equipment, it was built to a military specification rather than a commercial price point.
