The Mil-Tec French Style Khaki Pith Helmet follows the shape of the classic colonial sun helmet: a tall domed crown over a wide, rigid brim that shades the face, ears and back of the neck. It is made for hot, bright conditions where a soft cap leaves too much exposed. Reenactors, period costumers, collectors and anyone working outdoors in strong sun will get use from it.

Features

• Khaki Fabric Cover — The rigid shell is covered in khaki twill-weave fabric sewn in panels that meet at the crown.
• Pleated Crown Band — A folded fabric band wraps the base of the crown in the traditional pith helmet style.
• Wide Bound Brim — The brim extends well past the head on all sides, and its edge is finished with fabric binding.
• Eyelet Vents — Metal-ringed eyelets on each side of the crown let warm air escape from inside the helmet.
• Crown Vent Cap — A raised fabric-covered button at the top sits over the crown opening in the classic design.
• Suspended Headband — Dark spacer tabs hold the inner headband away from the shell, so air can move between your head and the helmet.
• Cross-Strap Suspension — Two fabric straps cross inside the crown and are tied together with a cord at the center.
• Adjustable Chin Strap — A brown strap with metal slide buckles adjusts for length and can ride over the front of the brim when not in use.

Construction And Fit

Inside, the helmet rides on a fabric headband rather than resting directly on the shell, which keeps it stable and leaves an air gap above the head. The cord joining the crown straps can be tied tighter or looser to change how high the helmet sits. Combined with the eyelet vents and the wide brim, the layout is the same one sun helmets have relied on for hot-climate wear.
