Vietnam-Era Jungle Hat
Rothco built this boonie hat to replicate the jungle hat American troops wore in Vietnam, and it does the same job today: it keeps sun and rain off your face, neck and ears in hot, wet country. The olive drab cotton, wide stitched brim and foliage band follow the original pattern closely. Hunters, hikers, reenactors and anyone working outdoors in summer will get regular use from it.

- 100% Ripstop Cotton — The cotton is woven with a reinforcing grid, visible across the crown and brim, so a small snag cannot run into a long tear.
- Olive Drab Color — Olive drab, often shortened to OD green, is the muted field green the US military used for decades and blends well into woodland and brush.
- 3-Inch Stitched Brim — Rows of stitching run around the full brim to help it keep its shape while shading your face and the back of your neck.
- Foliage Loop Band — A webbing band around the crown is sewn down at intervals, leaving loops where you can tuck grass or small branches to break up the hat's outline.
- Screened Side Vents — Four metal-ringed eyelets with mesh screens let warm air escape from the crown while keeping insects out.
- Adjustable Chin Cord — A cord with a sliding toggle tightens under the chin so the hat stays put in wind or when you move fast.
- Vintage Vietnam Styling — The cut, color and details follow the Vietnam-era boonie, which suits period kit and reenactment as well as everyday wear.
Ripstop Cotton Build
The hat is made entirely of ripstop cotton, which breathes better in heat than synthetic blends and softens with wear. Rothco is a commercial manufacturer, not a surplus source, so this hat is new production made to the classic design. It covers hat sizes from 7 to 7¾, and the chin cord gives you extra hold beyond the fit of the crown.

Good hatI wear a 7 1/4 and this was tight enough to leave a line on my forehead for the first few days. Loosened up after about a week of wearing it around. Ripstop cotton is decent weight, brim keeps its shape stuffed in a pack. Chin strap is thin string, works but don't expect much. Sweat band breathes ok in 90 degree weather. For the money it's fine, I just wish I'd ordered a 7 3/8.

Just like the originalsAs a Vietnam War collector and reenactor, I've handled plenty of original 1960s-70s boonies and this one nails the look. The rip-stop cotton has that classic OD shadd not too green, not too brown. The metal mesh vents are period correct (unlike some cheaper repros with plastic), and the branch loops are functional for adding foliage if you're going full LRRP. I compared this side-by-side with my Rothco and honestly the construction is nearly identical screened vents, same 3" brim width, same nylon chin cord. Mine arrived with a slight factory smell but aired out overnight. Stitching is solid, no loose threads. If you're building an impression or just want that vintage aesthetic, this hits the mark without breaking the bank.

Best budget boonie on the marketI've owned several boonie hats over the years and this one punches well above its price point. Wore it during a 3-day hiking trip in direct sun and my neck and face stayed protected the whole time. The loops around the brim are a nice touch for adding foliage during MilSim ops. Will be buying a second one as a backup.

Best boonie hat for the price.This hat is way better than the cheap ones you find at big box stores. The chin strap is really helpful for keeping it on my head when it gets windy on the trail. It is super comfortable and fits exactly how I expected it to.
