Way better than my Carhartts honestlyI been wearing carhartt wool socks for years and decided to try these because the price was basically the same for a pair. These are definately heavier and denser then the carhartts. The knit is real tight and you can tell theyre military surplus quality. Wore them hiking last weekend in my redwing boots and my feet stayed warm even after crossing a creek and getting them soaked. Thats the big thing for me, wool that still insulates when wet, and these do it. The ribbing goes all the way up to the knee which is kinda overkill for just hiking but whatever I just fold em down. Only complaint is theyre a little scratchy the first couple times you wear them, I think theres more wool in the blend then im used to. After two washes they softened up nice though. Compared to what I paid for the carhartts these are a no brainer if you want actual heavyweight socks not the thin stuff they sell now.
Warm even when wet
Scratchy until you wash them twice
