The Mosin Nagant Oil Bottle is a standard issue USSR Red Army item for the Mosin Nagant M91/30 rifle. Soldiers in the Red Army would keep two types of lubricating oil in this oiler to maintain their Mosin Nagant rifles.
Mosin Nagant Oil Bottle
The Mosin Nagant Oil Bottle is one of a host of authentic accessories that were commonly issued with the M91/30 rifle. Collectors of Mosin Nagant rifles frequently find that accessories for the Mosin are as much fun to collect.
One of the most common yet unique looking Mosin Nagant accessories is the oil bottle. Most Mosin Nagant oil bottles are of a two compartment design. Each side has a separate access port that is closed with a screw on cap.
On the front of each side of the oil bottle are markings to signify which type of oil is in the oil bottle. These markings can vary greatly which adds to the appeal of the oil bottle for collectors.
My bottles are in great shape. Two of them still have liquid in the W side.
This is a Russian issued container that was paired with the Mosin-Nagant rifle. The english letter H is the Russian letter N which stands for neft or oil. The letter W pronounced shch, like fresh, is from the Russian word shchalok or alkaline solution. So these little bottles held oil and a cleaning solution to neutralize the corrosive powder and primers they used.
Very useful and well made
Ok, you will have to clean it with a small toothbrush and degreaser inside and out as there is still some oil and residue, but it is a very useful little bottle. For example, using one side for solvent the other for oil for a portable cleaning kit, or even using as a pill bottle. Seems to be leak proof. I like it - I think for the price it's pretty nifty.
