Description
The OKC RAT Model 1 Plain Blade is a tough folding knife that was designed by OKC and RAT. This collaboration has resulted in a number of innovative knife designs that have been fielded by military, law enforcement, and security conscious civilians around the world. The RAT Model 1 fills the need of an everyday carry knife that does not have a serrated blade and once you experience the performance of the RAT Model 1 you will see why it has been one of the most successful folding knives in the extensive OKC product line.
My new EDC. I was first put off by OKC making this in Taiwan. After using it every day, and trying to find flaws in it, I found none. Put a few drops of oil on and take a while to break it in, get used to opening it. Takes and holds a razor sharp edge. Love the bigger size, fits perfect in larger hands. Locks tight, this will never close accidentally. OKC quality at a great price. Going to grab the rat2 today.

Fantastic knife for the price, feels great in the hand
Review byShareeta Y.
I purchased this knife to replace a Gerber Evo that I misplaced. This knife is slightly larger and slightly heavier. I particularly like that the knife is fully compatible for right or left carry and use with dual thumbs studs and the belt clip can be placed in tip up or down on either side. I was surprised at how well the knife fits in the hand. It is a very comfortable grip including the grind on the back of the blade for your thumb. The lock is very stable and secures the blade well. There is no wiggle in the blade. The only potential disadvantage is the weight at 5.0 ounces.

Big Rat 1 Vs Smaller Rat 2
Review byCreed I.
I previously purchased an Ontario Rat 2. When the Rat 1 had a price drop, I picked it up. While I rated the Rat 2 a 4.9, I am enjoying the Rat 1 more. I rate the Rat 1 a 5-star approval! The Rat 1 is a bit larger, but this has become my EDC. The action in both is smooth, but the Rat 1 is frictionless! Both lock securely in the open and detent operation. I highly recommend either, but the Rat1 holds a reserved spot in my pocket!

This is a good purchase for the price. Lightweight and easy to handle. Obviously isn’t the best, but it’s similar in quality to knives that go for between $40-$60. Would purchase again.

Great Knife excellent value
Review byOsvaldo T.
I have both the Rat 1 and Rat 2. The Rat 1 is a big knife for a folder. Both knives far exceed expectations in quality. They are a rare value in todays market. Easy purchase, if you’re on the fence just buy it!

Nice knife for an unmatched price
Review byLaketia Q.
This is my first pocket knife. I chose this on the advice of forums and I'm very glad I did. The handle feels good in my hand. Even without any opening aid mechanism, the opening is smooth and easy. Your hand is in the way as it closes so you'll have to be aware of that which is my only complaint. The factory edge is pretty good; at every point it moves through paper with ease. The blade also thins down towards the tip so it has pretty nice geometry as well.

Great knife for the money
Review byMichelene F.
This knife is a classic. Most avid knife collectors are familiar with the RAT1. It has a great feel in your hand, and well placed thumb screws. This model is stainless steel. It’sa god durable knife that’s easy to sharpen. There’s a D2 steel model available too. If your looking for an all around good knife for around $25, this can’t be beat! The RAT1 in D2 steel model is around $35. Either one of these models is a great knife!

Pretty Good
Review byQuincy Q.
It is a good knife. For around $30, I won't complain. It's new so it needs a little breaking in period to smooth out the action. WARNING - The only issue I have is that it has a slight hitch and click before the liner lock kicks in, causing the mistake of thinking the knife lock is engaged - SAFETY CONCERN. You just need to make sure you open it with a little authority...probably not a good knife for your first knife.

Its my favorite knife to carry as a gonna use it for what its for knife. It's all business ,sturdy ,holds a nice edge and gets it done and it's pretty good looking too. This one replaced the D2 version I carried for several years because somehow I opened it up and the blade had a massive chip I never saw happen.I was NOT happy so I went with this guy.

Best Workhorse Folding Knife
Review byYuuki X.
I just bought my second Rat in 5 years... The first one is still fine, but I don't (yet) have the right tools to sharpen it back up. The first one has been the ultimate workhorse - everything from cooking to pry-bar, and for ~$25 this is easily the best value folding knife I've come across.

Great pocket knife, except
Review byKrystyl X.
It’s easy to carry. Easy to use. Strong and well made, the only caveat I have is that the black on the blade is coming off. I wonder, is it coming off in food that I’ve used the knife to process?
Maybe, and that’s not OK.

Knife arrived in working shape with major flaws
Review byBelton I.
I've only used this knife for daily carry and self-defense. Once I received this item:

1) It wouldn't flick open fast as told, I would have to manually open it

2) It now doesn't stay closed, I don't have to move the safety pin to open it.... Not good

3) For sure is a sharp knife with the nice addition of a strong pin which I attached to my left pocket. The weight is manageable and not uncomfortable. Can be discreet as well if the color of your pants is matching the item

4) Would not buy it again due to these flaws after owning it for two months and barely using it

Great tool
Review byReneta B.
If you're looking for a tool, then this knife is for you. Definitely not just a casual pocket knife. I've owned (and lost or gave away) many of these and I always come back to them. They're basic, rugged and just plain work. Not something you have to babysit or be nice to

Perhaps best deal for the money anywhere
Review byAvon T.
This is a large, robust, well made knife. The smaller version Rat2 fits the pocket better for EDC but for heavy duty reliable use, this is terrific. I'm not a bott, I just love the simplicity and reliability of this knife. I keep an eye out for good deals on KeepShooting warehouse and have bought one for every bugout bag my family has. Holds an edge well and comes very sharp from factory.

New washer configuration?
Review byEvelynn D.
The RATs are my favourite Folders. Over the years, I have purchased approximately two dozen, with several gifted away.

The dual pair teflon-bronze washer combo is considered to be a key feature of these knives. However, over the past couple months, every RAT1 I purchased arrived with a teflon-bronze pair of washers on the liner lock side of the pivot, BUT, a SINGLE (and apparently thicker), teflon washer on the other end of the pivot!

I ended up going through the expense and hassle of returning the first few RATs that came with this unexpected washer configuration. However, after observing over time, that the very same three-washer configuration appeared on different models (AUS8 with black scales, serrated AUS8 coated black with black scales, AUS8 with foliage green scales_limited edition, D2 with coyote brown scales, D2 with olive drab scales); including all which came directly from the actual Manufacturer (via KeepShooting), I concluded that this change must be a Manufacturer's decision and not a production error.

Personally, I am not delighted about the change. Even though the single teflon washer seems equivalent in thickness to the teflon-bronze combo pair, I figure that the phosphor-bronze washer is more durable. Interestingly, the knives with this recent tri-washer configuration all arrived with well-centred blades! Blade centering is not always optimal on the RATs.

Well, the RATs still remain my favourite Folders and what I consider to be very good value, but in essence, they have now lost some appeal because of that switch in washer configuration.

I sent a query to the Manufacturer, but got no response. Unfortunately.

Great knife, but need quality control

Great knife for the price but need quality control. The first one came with one Teflon washer on one side and bronze one the other. Exchanged for a new one and got both bronze washers.

My favorite knife by far
Review byLuanna S.
I have carried fixed blade, folders… assisted opening but all seem to be lacking one place or another. This knife is ergonomic, balanced well, no slop open or closed, the blade is well made and the carry clip can be attached to either side based on preference. It’s relatively sharp with a solid grip and even with wet hands there’s positive control. I’m going to buy a few more just because I don’t want to be in a position where Im without one in case I lose the one I have out working or just living.
