About Springfield Armory Magazines at Keep Shooting
Keep Shooting carries 23 factory Springfield Armory magazine SKUs covering the company's complete modern lineup — the M1A civilian M14 battle rifle (continuously produced in Geneseo, Illinois since 1974), the Croatian-built HS Produkt XD / XDM / XD-S polymer striker-fired service pistol family, the 1911 A1 and 1911 EMP (Enhanced Micro Pistol), and the micro-compact 911 .380 ACP pocket pistol. Every magazine in this catalog is factory Springfield Armory production — the same magazines Springfield ships as original-equipment in new firearms. For the complete Springfield lineup including firearms, see our Springfield Armory brand page.
Important history clarification. The modern Springfield Armory Inc. (Geneseo, Illinois, founded 1974) is a completely different company from the historic Springfield Armory — the US federal arsenal that operated in Springfield, Massachusetts from 1794 through 1968 as the primary producer of small arms for the US military. The historic arsenal produced the Springfield Model 1795 musket through the 1917 Enfield, 1903 Springfield, M1 Garand, and the M14 — and was closed by the Department of Defense in 1968 as part of McNamara-era defense consolidation. Six years later, in 1974, an entrepreneur named Robert Reese purchased the "Springfield Armory" trade name rights and founded a new commercial firearms company under that name in Geneseo, Illinois. The modern Springfield Armory Inc. (controlled by the Reese family since) has no manufacturing or corporate continuity with the historic Springfield Massachusetts arsenal — but it has spent 50 years building its own distinct reputation as one of America's leading pistol and rifle manufacturers.
M1A — the civilian M14. Springfield Armory's defining product, the M1A, is the semi-automatic civilian version of the military M14 battle rifle chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO / .308 Winchester. When the historic Springfield Armory closed in 1968, the M14 tooling was dispersed and a significant portion was acquired by Reese's new company at the founding in 1974. Springfield has continuously produced the M1A from 1974 to the present day using the original Springfield Armory drawings and, where still operable, the original Springfield Armory tooling. The M1A today remains one of the most respected 7.62 NATO semi-auto battle rifles on the US civilian market — widely used in service-rifle competition, M14 Designated Marksman reproduction builds, and precision long-range shooting. Our factory Springfield M1A 5-round and M1A 10-round magazines are original- production replacement capacity for the platform. For the complete M1A / M14 magazine lineup including USGI surplus and international production (including the Taiwan T57 military-surplus magazines), see our M14 Magazines category.
XD, XDM, XD-S — the HS Produkt Croatian import. The Springfield XD (eXtreme Duty) service pistol is not actually a Springfield Armory design — it is the HS2000 pistol designed by the Croatian firm HS Produkt (formerly IM Metal) and produced at their Karlovac, Croatia factory since 1999. Springfield Armory imports and distributes the pistol in the US market under the "XD" designation. HS Produkt is the same Croatian firm whose VHS-2 bullpup service rifle became Croatia's standard military rifle in 2015 and was later imported by Springfield as the Hellion in 2022. The XD line includes the full-size XD in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP; the XD Compact and Subcompact; the striker-fired XDM (eXtreme Duty Match) with enhanced match trigger and lower bore axis; and the single-stack XD-S concealed-carry variant. Our catalog carries factory magazines across every major XD / XDM / XD-S caliber and capacity combination in our catalog — XD9 subcompact 10-round, XD40 subcompact 10-round, XD40 compact 12-round, XD45 standard, XD45 compact, XD45 10-round compliance, XDM9 standard, XDM40, XDM40 compact, XDM45 compact, XDM compact 45ACP 13-round, XD-S 9mm, XD-S 40sw, and the XD-S 40 magazine with sleeves.
1911 A1 — Springfield's American-made John Browning pistol. Springfield Armory produces its 1911 pistols on US soil (Geneseo, Illinois) rather than importing, making it one of a relatively small number of manufacturers of genuine US-made 1911s alongside Colt, Kimber, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, and Ed Brown. The Springfield 1911 A1 is the classic full-size government-pattern 1911 in .45 ACP with a 5" barrel, and our factory magazines include both the standard 7-round capacity and the stainless-steel premium magazine variant for corrosion- resistance applications. For the broader 1911 magazine catalog across every manufacturer we stock see our 1911 Magazines category.
1911 EMP — the 9mm scaled-down 1911. Springfield's 1911 EMP (Enhanced Micro Pistol) is a Springfield- original design that takes the standard 1911 pattern and scales it down to specifically fit the 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge — every dimension shortened proportionally, creating a 1911-ergonomic pistol that is meaningfully smaller and lighter than a standard-frame 1911 chambered in 9mm. The EMP magazine is NOT interchangeable with standard 1911 9mm magazines (like those for full-size Colt or Wilson 9mm 1911s) — the shortened EMP frame uses a proprietary shorter-length magazine. Our catalog carries factory EMP 9mm and the lightweight Champion 9mm variant, plus an EMP .40 S&W magazine. The EMP is particularly well-regarded among concealed carriers who want 1911 trigger ergonomics in a genuinely pocketable frame size — the only mainstream commercial 1911 scaled down this aggressively for 9mm.
911 — the .380 ACP pocket pistol. The Springfield 911 (introduced 2018) is a micro-compact all-metal pocket pistol in .380 ACP — Springfield's entry into the ultra-small carry-pistol market that includes the Ruger LCP, Sig P238, Kahr P380, Kimber Micro .380, and S&W Bodyguard .380. The 911 is the single-stack, 6-round, aluminum / stainless construction pistol designed for deep concealment and pocket carry. Our factory Springfield 911 magazine is the original-capacity replacement — and given the compact scale of the pistol and its correspondingly small single-stack magazine, a factory replacement (versus any aftermarket alternative) is particularly important for reliability in a carry pistol where a single failed feed can matter.
Platform compatibility — critical warnings. Springfield's magazine families are platform-specific and caliber- specific, and the frame-height differences between variants are subtle enough to cause frequent customer confusion: XD and XDM magazines are NOT cross-compatible despite both being HS Produkt polymer striker-fired pistols (different frame height to accommodate the XDM match trigger). XD 9mm and XD .40 magazines are NOT cross-compatible with the corresponding XD .45 magazines (different frame width for the larger cartridge). Compact and full-size XD magazines are NOT cross-compatible (different magazine lengths, though the compact will typically fit the full-size pistol with an extension sleeve). XD-S single-stack magazines are NOT cross-compatible with any double-stack XD or XDM (different frame type entirely). EMP 9mm magazines are NOT cross-compatible with standard 1911 9mm magazines (shortened frame). M1A magazines are NOT cross-compatible with any AR-10, SCAR-17, or other 7.62 NATO platform despite the shared cartridge — the M14 / M1A uses a distinct magazine pattern. Before ordering, verify your Springfield's specific model, frame type, and caliber.
Factory magazines and Springfield reliability. The XD / XDM / XD-S family uses factory HS Produkt magazines — the same Croatian-production magazines that HS Produkt ships as original-equipment with every pistol they produce globally. HS Produkt does not license their pistol design to any US-based magazine manufacturer for XD/XDM production, making factory Springfield magazines (which are Croatian factory production imported by Springfield USA) effectively the only original-spec magazine source. The M1A magazines are Springfield- Geneseo production on the original Springfield Armory tooling. The 1911 A1 magazines are Springfield-Geneseo production. The EMP magazines are Springfield-specific proprietary production. The 911 magazines are Springfield-specific production. For any of these platforms, factory Springfield is the reliability standard — the aftermarket magazine market for the XD / XDM / XD-S in particular has a mixed reliability reputation, and a pistol you actually intend to carry deserves factory magazines.
