worth every penny for real navigationI do alot of solo backpacking and hunt trips in the Sierra Nevadas where cell service is a joke and you need to actually know where you are. Picked up the MC-2 USGS after my old baseplate compass finally gave up the ghost and honestly wish I'd upgraded sooner. The sighting mirror lets you take bearings that are way more accurate than holding a compass at waist level and hoping. Clinometer is a nice bonus I've used it a couple times to estimate slope angles on deer drives. The lanyard with the wristlock is a smart touch, keeps it from bouncing off a rock and cracking. Liquid dampening is smooth and the needle settles fast. For the money (around $70) it's hard to beat. My buddy has the Silva Ranger 2.0 and it's fine but the bezel on the Suunto just feels better, more positive clicks. Only minor gripe is the declination key is tiny and I can see myself losing it eventually I zip-tied a spare to my pack just in case.
