Mirror Sighting Compass

The Brunton TruArc 15 is a baseplate compass with a folding mirror lid for taking accurate bearings in open country and working directly on a paper map. The mirror lets you hold a distant landmark and the compass dial in view at the same moment, so you can read a bearing at eye level instead of guessing from the hip. Hikers, hunters, search teams and anyone learning land navigation can use it for both map work and field sighting.

Features

• Folding Sighting Mirror — A hinged mirror with a center sighting line folds up so you can line up a landmark and watch the needle in one look.
• Global Needle — The needle carries Brunton's Global Needle marking, meant to read accurately in both the northern and southern hemispheres.

• Declination Scale — East and west declination markings inside the capsule let you account for the difference between magnetic north and the true north printed on your map.

• Map Scales On The Baseplate — The clear plate is printed with 1:24,000 and 1:62,500 mile scales plus an inch ruler, so you can measure distance straight off a topographic map.
• Luminous Markings — The bezel ring and key reference points glow in low light, keeping the dial readable at dusk or in a dark tent.
• Protective Closing Cover — The black lid folds down over the capsule and baseplate, shielding the mirror and dial when the compass is packed away.

Build And Map Use

The TruArc 15 has a transparent baseplate, so map detail shows through while you align the edge between two points and set your bearing. A knurled hinge joins the plate to a black cover with the Brunton logo on its end. Closed, it becomes a compact flat block that slips into a chest pocket or map case without snagging the mirror.
