Description
US M1917 Bayonet
The M1917 is the long sword bayonet the US Army issued for the M1917 rifle, the American Enfield carried by doughboys in the First World War. This one comes with its olive drab scabbard, so it can be displayed, stored or carried as a complete set. Collectors filling out a US small arms display and reenactors who need the right edged weapon on the belt are the people who go looking for it.
Features
- Long Single-Edged Blade — The straight sword-pattern blade runs to a sharp point and gives the rifle real reach when fixed.
- Fullered Blade Profile — A fuller, the shallow groove running down the flat of the blade, stiffens it without adding weight.
- Muzzle Ring Crossguard — The ring at the end of the guard slides over the rifle's muzzle to lock the bayonet in line with the barrel.
- Pommel Release Button — A press button in the pommel frees the bayonet from the rifle's mounting lug.
- Checkered Black Grips — Diamond checkering on both grip panels gives a secure hold in a wet or gloved hand.
- Dark Military Finish — The blade, guard and pommel carry a uniform dark finish that cuts glare.
- Olive Drab Scabbard — The full-length OD green scabbard covers the blade and ends in a rounded tip.
- Stamped Metal Throat — The scabbard's metal throat carries stamped markings, the kind of detail collectors check first.
- Genuine US Army Issue — This is original government-issue gear, not a modern copy.
Issue and Specification
The M1917 was built to mount on the M1917 rifle through a lug slot in the pommel and the muzzle ring on the crossguard, the standard US pattern of the period. Paired with its scabbard, it shows how the bayonet was actually issued and carried. For anyone assembling a WWI US rifle display or an accurate infantry impression, an original issued piece holds up to close inspection in a way a copy cannot.
