US Military Flyers Kit Bag

Aircrew Kit Bag

The flyers kit bag is the large, squared-off carryall US military aircrew use to haul flight gear such as helmets, jackets and flight clothing between the line and quarters. This is genuine issue under NSN 8460-00-606-8366. It holds bulky kit without crushing it and carries by hand on two long webbing handles. Pilots, collectors and anyone who needs a roomy gear bag with military provenance keep coming back to it.

Features

• Genuine US Military Issue — Supplied under National Stock Number 8460-00-606-8366, the government's catalogue code for the flyers kit bag.
• Wraparound Webbing Handles — Two webbing straps run down the sides and under the base, so the load hangs from the straps and not from the bag fabric.
• Bar-Tacked Handle Anchors — Box-and-cross stitching where the handles meet the body reinforces the points that take the most strain.
• Snap-Fastened Top — Metal snaps along the top edge secure the opening when the bag is packed.
• Boxy Upright Shape — Flat sides and a squared base let the bag stand on its own and stack in a vehicle or locker.
• Single Large Compartment — One open main space takes a flight helmet, jacket or a stack of folded clothing without dividers in the way.
• OD Green Finish — Olive drab, the standard US military green, matches other issued field and flight gear.
• Stenciled Issue Markings — Units may carry the original stencil with nomenclature, contract date and stock number printed on the side panel.

Issue Markings And Spec

The bag was made to a US military specification for aircrew use, and stenciled examples read "KIT BAG, FLYERS" with the date, NSN and "U.S." on the side. It was produced under several contracts over the years, so fabric weave and finish can differ from one bag to the next, with some in heavy canvas and others in smoother synthetic cloth. The handle layout and overall pattern stay the same across runs. That makes it a good choice for collectors and aviation reenactors who want the issued bag and not a commercial copy.
