US Pattern Field Machete

The OKC US Military Machete is a long-bladed chopping tool for clearing brush, cutting back vines and saplings, and opening up overgrown trail. It follows the plain, straight-backed US military pattern: a wide single-edged blade, a riveted grip and a hooked pommel that keeps the handle from sliding out of a sweaty hand mid-swing. Campers, hunters, landowners and preppers keep one in the truck or by the shed door for jobs too big for a knife and too awkward for an axe.

Features

• High Carbon Steel Blade — Carbon steel takes a keen edge and is easy to bring back with a file or stone in the field, though it needs a light coat of oil to keep rust off.
• Black Blade Finish — The blade is finished in matte black from spine to tip, cutting down glare and shine.
• Wide Straight Blade — A long, broad, straight blade puts weight forward for chopping and ends in a rounded tip.
• Riveted Black Handle — The grip scales are fixed to the blade with a row of rivets for a solid, no-wobble hold.
• Hooked Pommel — A downturned hook at the butt of the handle gives your little finger a stop, so the machete stays in your hand during hard swings.
• Front Finger Guard — A raised lip where the handle meets the blade helps keep your hand from riding forward onto the edge.
• Lanyard Hole — A small hole near the end of the handle takes a cord loop for a wrist strap or for hanging the machete on a hook.
• US Stamp On Blade — The blade carries a stamped US marking near the handle, in keeping with the military pattern.

Build and Care

OKC builds this machete around a high carbon steel blade, chosen because it is tough under impact and simple to resharpen. The black handle is riveted through the tang, and the hooked pommel and front guard frame the grip at both ends. Wipe the blade dry after use and give it a thin coat of oil before storage, and it will stay ready for the next round of clearing.
