Yugoslav M56 Bayonet

This is the bayonet Yugoslavia issued for the Zastava M56 submachine gun, a Yugoslav development of the German MP40 chambered in 7.62x25mm. It pairs a 7-inch double-edged blade with a grooved grip and a locking pommel, so the same piece works as a fixed bayonet and as a hand-held field knife. Collectors building out an M56, Cold War Eastern Bloc enthusiasts and reenactors are the people who look for it.

Features

• Double-Edged Steel Blade — The 7-inch (about 175-180 mm) spear-point blade is sharpened on both sides and tapers evenly to the tip.
• Approx. 11.25-Inch Overall Length — At around 11.25 inches (285 mm) end to end, it is compact enough to carry on a belt without getting in the way.
• Grooved Black Grip Scales — Deep transverse ridges molded into the black plastic scales give a firm hold with a wet or gloved hand.
• Muzzle Ring Crossguard — The steel crossguard has a ring on one side that slides over the barrel's muzzle to support the blade when it is fixed.
• Push-Button Pommel Lock — A button on the grip works the catch in the pommel, which locks onto the weapon's bayonet lug and releases it on demand.
• Blued Steel Finish — Bluing, a controlled oxidized surface treatment, gives the blade and scabbard their dark finish and helps resist rust.
• Steel Scabbard Included — A heavy steel scabbard with a flared throat and rounded tip covers the full blade length.

Zastava made the M56 bayonet for the Yugoslav military to go with its M56 submachine gun, and it is all-steel apart from the grip scales. Because it is government-issue rather than a later copy, it is the correct bayonet for a genuine M56 display or loadout. The blade, guard and scabbard share the same blued steel construction.
