The British Army Operational Travel Bag is the solution to the problem of deployments where you require a large amount of personal support equipment or gear. With enough room to carry several days worth of clothing, support equipment, and specialized gear this first rate all-black tactical bag belongs in everyone's equipment room, hunting cabin, or stocked with gear in the truck of your car.
With the capability of wearing this deployment bag as a backpack, you can dramatically increase the amount of weight you have in the bag. There are padded and fully adjustable shoulder straps and a unique Velcro attached set of pads that offer significant back support which will allow you to carry your heavy load much further and wear your pack for longer. If you have a smaller carrying load, you can store the shoulder straps under the Velcro pads and use the carry straps to tote your bug out bag in your hand instead of wearing it on your back.
Inside of the Operational Travel Bag you will find a huge main compartment that features a removable rigid bottom that provides additional support for when you are carrying large cargo loads. The space available is on the large to extra-large side, with nothing lacking that would require a soldier to carry an additional bag of gear for a deployment into the field. As an extra bonus there is a water proof storage pocket with a clear vinyl cover, perfect for putting your most important items where you may need to quickly retrieve them and need them in perfect condition. On the outside of the operational travel bag you'll find two zippered pockets on each end, and a Velcro covered space for putting an identification tag.

Bought mine from Keepshooting one year ago, so I figured it would be time to give some feedback. This British travel bag is one of the best deals in luggage. The long interior compartment can fit bulky ski jackets, ski boots, thick fleeces, and all manner of awkwardly shaped items. The side pockets can fit running shoes, flip flops, or toiletry kits.
Mine had some storage dirt (washed off with a hose) and some repaired areas where a soldier had taken patches of cordura and glued/melted the material onto the bag. Over the course of a year, this bag has been manhandled onto airline luggage holds, skidded across ice, and bounced around the truck bed, with none the worse for wear. The black color keeps the bag fairly nondescript when moving thru foreign airports.
Now, the downsides. My only gripe with this bag is its awkwardness to carry over long distances with heavy loads. The bag comes with backpack straps, but I travel with a 3-day backpack most of the time, ruling out their use. The sheer size and bulk of the bag extends the center of gravity far outward from the body, making it a PITA to carry from one side of the airport to another.
Other than that, a terrific bag.
Overall, this seemed like a great bag and I was very excited upon receiving it. After using it only a few times and having one of the straps tear out, that excitement turned to disappointment. It still seems like a decent product, but certainly not capable of any significant abuse. I specifically bought milsurp expecting more rugged construction, but I have been sorely disappointed.
i use it for frequent travel, holds all my luggage for 4 days! great pack for outdoors as well
When I received the bag, it came in used condition just as advertised, but, it was still very usable and in good shape.
Great shape.Like it better than my US duffle. Only problem I had was heavy aftershave smell. A couple of washings took care of that.
Received this bag in great condition as can be expected with a item that's surplus. There was a small set of repair patches and a damaged plastic liner inside. I tossed the liner and used the bag for travel. The bag was very comfortable on back and easy to convert at the bag check counter. Very happy to have this bag to use for the race season this year.
I've always been wary about ordering used surplus items sight unseen. Even after reading the previous reviews, I decided to take a chance on this one due to the price, and the fact that I have owned British military surplus items before and always found them to be of excellent quality. I am planning on using this in my vehicle to keep my emergency supplies organized, and I don't plan on hiking anywhere with it on my back, so it doesn't need to be in new condition, just serviceable. The bag I received is in great shape. It has two minor repair areas, that were very well done. Otherwise, no rips or tears, no thin spots, and all buckles and straps intact. For what I am planning on using this for, it is perfect. I am very happy with this purchase.
I just received this today thinking the pictured one looks good. Was expecting new but mine was pretty beat up. It had a decent amount of patchs on it. 2 on the bottom where the little non slip pads are supposed to be (they were missing) one big one covering the bottom pocket. A few just scattered around the bag. Sticky tape residue on one of the shoulder straps. Covered in dirt and dust. There was something smeared on the top of the bag just mashed into the fabric and dried. Over all not as great as I was hoping but it is surplus I suppose. It looks functional. Nifty idea for a bag.
The bag weight about 4.5 pounds. Carry straps on top and bottom are heavily stitched to carry heavy loads. The shoulder straps are padded, but not enough for carrying beyond short distances. The interior of the bag is lined with a water resistant material, but will not keep contents completely dry is left out in the rain. All the clips, zippers, and velcro tabs worked and were functional. The condition of the bag itself was clean, but worn. I counted 4 holes patched along the bottom and edges of the bag. Holding the bag up against a lit backdrop, I can see several other worn portions that will also require patching in the future.
Planning to use it in my upcoming trip to Italy as my only checked bag. It is long enough that I can pack my walking sticks inside. An excellent buy from KS.
