Tritium Map Compass

The Cammenga Destinate D3-T is a protractor compass: a clear baseplate with a rotating bezel, so you can lay it on a map, measure a bearing, and then walk that bearing on the ground. Tritium illumination keeps the compass readable after dark without a flashlight. The rulers and scales printed on the plate make it a full map tool for hunters, hikers, land navigation students and anyone who plots routes on paper topo maps.

• Tritium Illumination — The compass carries 115 mCi of tritium, a self-powered radioactive gas that glows on its own, so it needs no charging from light or batteries.
• Degree And Mil Bezel — The rotating bezel is marked in red degrees from 0 to 360 and in black mils, the finer angular unit used by militaries for precise bearings.
• Transparent Baseplate — The clear green plate lets you see map detail underneath while you line up the edge between two points.
• Multiple Map Scales — Romer-style scales for 1:24,000, 1:25,000, 1:50,000 and 1:63,360 maps let you read grid coordinates and distances straight off the plate.

Built For Map Work

Cammenga is best known for military lensatic compasses, and the D3-T brings that night-readable tritium setup to a baseplate design that is quicker to use on a map. The needle shows E and W markers, the bezel has a ribbed black grip for turning with gloves, and the scales cover the most common US and metric topographic map series. Use it to plot a route at the table, then take the same compass into the field to follow it.
