    I am a student in the outdoor program @ Fort Lewis Mca DOI. The "rain" Poncho that i have is so well crafted and put together it can be transformed into an sleeping bag (not so light weight, but extremely useful in case you find yourself "having to make a dash for some "timber" on a hiking trip). My poncho is water proof. The product i recieved was new in condition , came earlier than anticipated, with a packaging sealed shut as not to leave water in the package during shipment. This product in my book is perfect for any out door type person, student, rambunctious kids looking for an affordable piece of camping equipment, A family trip in the wilderness. The craftsmanship on this makes you not want to let it out of your sight ( i.e when the snow gets to be to much in one place, and i don't have to trek out in deep snow... its been a little below zero here lately... to just bundle up and throw this on top of whatever you have on (a hat a pair of boots or sneakers), you can even double it up as the inner shell of your jacket, to protect your body, neck etc from those real extreme cold days...and/or your out in the middle of no were at 2am just out to survey wildlife, hunting deer etc in frigid temperatures where there is snow, sleet rain all of the above, your in no danger of hypothermia. And you won't need to "trek" all the way back home to thaw out before you are done, a cheap shelter will do in case of bad winds or other adverse condition that prevents your poncho from standing up, however the product is put together very well, and has an emergency tie point so you may attach other pieces of poncho, or sleeping bag/ poncho liner to complete your emergency blanket... which in the army would be known as "a surpluss poncho".     A couple small but easy to mend holes in stitching when I had my shoes tied to my poncho and slipped when I took them off. This happened at the same time that I got a minor tear. My backpacker-lite friends like the room and I just rolled it up and threw it in the sack. Washed it once by hand to make sure it did not shrink too much. I would not put it in the dryer. This and other mil/usgs that I bought (actually gov issued) all shrank about the same. Worth it to me. Stitching is reinforced and this will last a long time. Different material but still very light weight for it's utility. I think the name HEDGES says something. A hedge would stop a horse so this is like stopping tanks with all that "US made mil stuff" that they sold the soviets and then bought back after a few years of operation in combat situations. No tanks or tanks size equipment, the designers of this knew that there was an element of small size crap and still could handle the largest Soviet crap they had. A hedge! A little thin and flexible but it goes into place and is secure. A tarp is another idea and it does look good over an over-nighter in the woods and with the room. But with the US made cotton string, this thing will hold. Somehow a square vs rect shaped package with equal space with my other ponchos but this will take some thought to get that best utilization out of this design vs. those rectangles with their girth, they tend to bunch up and not lay flat. Haven't put a poncho liner in this yet. No need, the fabric will be good against the chill and yet let moisture out and keeps the wind away from me but not the warmth I feel with the puffy and heavy poly-cotton batting and the snug fits with elastic all around the sleeping bags in the big trauma kit I always have on me when riding the big beast and having a knife is not the most effective weapon, it is the only non deadly effective one and I never
