French M63 Field Bag

The M63 is the French Army's field sleeping bag, built to keep a soldier warm on cold, damp ground. It is rated to roughly 14°F (-10°C) for three-season sleeping under shelter, and a rubberized underside keeps ground moisture from soaking through. Campers, hunters, bushcrafters and preppers buy it for a warm bag that packs into its own hood, and collectors buy it because it is the genuine French issue.

Features

• Olive Drab Shell — The outer is olive drab (OD), the muted green of French field kit, in a cotton and polyester construction.
• Synthetic Insulation — Man-made fill keeps much of its warmth when damp, where down tends to flatten and lose loft once wet.
• Rubberized Back Panel — A waterproof coated underside blocks moisture coming up from wet ground.
• Quilted Inner Lining — Stitched quilting on the tan interior holds the insulation in place so it cannot drift and leave cold spots.
• Integrated Hood — The fitted hood at the head end turns inside out to become the bag's own compression cover for carrying.
• Side Zipper Entry — A zipper down the side lets you get in and out easily and open the bag to vent heat on milder nights.

Original French Issue

This is authentic French Army kit, the bag French troops carried as a multi-season field sleeping system, not a commercial camping bag made to look military. It combines a cotton and polyester shell, synthetic fill and a waterproof base in one piece, so you do not need a separate ground cover for light damp. At around 6.6 lb it is heavier than a modern ultralight bag, which makes it a better fit for vehicle camping, hunting camps, cabins and emergency kits than for long-distance backpacking.
