Bundeswehr Air Force Cap

This is the side cap of the German Air Force, the Luftwaffe of the modern Bundeswehr (Germany's post-war armed forces). A side cap, also called a garrison cap, is the soft, brimless cap worn with service and walking-out uniforms, and it folds flat when not on the head. Collectors of NATO-era insignia, reenactors and anyone building a Bundeswehr uniform will want the genuine issued article rather than a lookalike.

Issue Pattern And Build

The cap follows the standard Bundeswehr side cap pattern: a tall, pointed crown inside a turned-up curtain, worn tilted to one side. It is sewn from a cotton and polyester blend in Air Force blue, with the national cockade fixed to the left front panel. Because it was produced for German service rather than the costume trade, it pairs correctly with other Luftwaffe uniform items for display or reenactment.
