GST Silver Ausbilder Medal
The GST Silver Ausbilder Medal is an original East German award presented to instructors of the Gesellschaft für Sport und Technik (Society for Sport and Technology), the GDR's paramilitary youth training organization. Issued in three grades — bronze, silver, and gold — this silver class recognized accomplished instructors who trained East German youth in marksmanship, parachuting, radio operation, and other pre-military disciplines. A piece of a country that dosent exist anymorehis is the kind of artifact that gives me chills when I hold it. The GST Silver Ausbilder Medal was awarded to instructors in the Gesellschaft für Sport und Technik East Germanys state-sponsored paramilitary youth organization that trained kids in marksmanship, orienteering, and military readiness from the 1950s all the way until reunification in 1990. This specific medal honored the dedicated educators who ran those programs. The craftsmanship is meticulous the detail work on the medal itself is sharp and clean, and it has that unmistakable Cold War Eastern Bloc aesthetic that you cant replicate. I collect NVA and DDR militaria and this sits in my display case next to my East German Makarov holster and a set of NVA shoulder boards.
