The KM2K is a fixed-blade combat knife made by Waffentechnik Borkott & Eickhorn in Solingen, Germany, and follows the pattern issued as the infantry combat knife of the German Armed Forces. A tanto blade, with its angular, reinforced point, handles hard piercing and prying work that would snap a finer tip. It suits soldiers, collectors and anyone who wants a heavy-duty field knife built to a military brief rather than a camping one.

Features

• 6.75-Inch Tanto Blade — The 6.75 in (170 mm) blade ends in a chisel-style tanto point and runs about 11.75 to 12 in (295 to 305 mm) overall.
• Partially Serrated Edge — Serrations near the guard saw through rope, webbing and cord, while the plain edge forward of them handles clean slicing.
• 440A Stainless Steel — The 5 mm thick blade is 440A stainless hardened to 55 to 56 HRC, a hardness on the Rockwell scale that balances edge holding with toughness and easy resharpening.
• Non-Reflective Black Coating — A Teflon coating over a black oxide finish cuts glare and protects the steel from corrosion, as do the treated metal parts throughout.
• Zytel Handle — The grip is fiberglass-reinforced polyamide, sold as Zytel, with molded ribs and grooves for a secure hold when wet or gloved.
• Integral Crossguard — A full guard with a ridged thumb rest keeps your hand from sliding forward onto the blade during hard thrusts.
• Glass-Breaker Pommel — The butt of the handle is shaped to break glass and has a hole for a lanyard.
• NBC Decontamination Capable — The materials tolerate the cleaning used after nuclear, biological or chemical exposure, a requirement of military issue.
• MOLLE-Compatible Sheath — A hard polyamide scabbard rides in a black nylon Cordura carrier with snap straps for MOLLE, the rows of webbing loops found on military vests and packs, plus a tie-down cord.

The blade carries the Waffentechnik Borkott & Eickhorn Solingen Germany marking at the ricasso, and the whole knife weighs about 1.12 lb (270 g). The handle and sheath are polymer, so nothing rots or swells in wet conditions. The sheath carrier mounts to MOLLE gear or a belt, and the cord lets you secure the tip to your leg or kit so it does not swing.
