Mirror Sighting Compass

The Silva Ranger 2.0 is a mirror sighting compass for people who navigate by map and bearing: hikers, hunters, search and rescue volunteers and anyone training in land navigation. A hinged mirror lid lets you hold the compass at eye level and sight on a landmark while reading the dial, which gives a tighter bearing than reading it at waist height. When you are done, the lid folds shut over the capsule and the compass hangs flat on its lanyard.

• Folding Sighting Mirror — The hinged lid carries a mirror and a sighting notch, so you can line up a distant point and watch the needle in the same glance.
• Adjustable Declination Scale — A scale inside the capsule runs to 90° east and west, so you can set the offset between magnetic north and true north once and stop correcting for it in your head.
• Adjustment Tool On The Lanyard — The tip of the lanyard holds a small tool that fits the screw on the bezel, which keeps the declination tool attached to the compass instead of loose in a pocket.
• 360-Degree Rotating Bezel — The black housing turns through a full circle and is marked in degrees with large white numerals, with a ridged edge for grip.
• Red-Tipped North Needle — A red north end and white south end sit over red and black orienting lines, the parallel lines you align with the map grid when taking a bearing off the map.
• Romer Scales For Common Maps — The clear baseplate carries 1:24k, 1:25k and 1:50k romer scales, small printed grids for reading an exact grid reference off a topographic map.
• Inch And Millimeter Rulers — Both long edges of the baseplate are graduated, one in inches and one in millimeters, for measuring map distances.
• Built-In Magnifier — A round lens set into the baseplate enlarges contour lines and small map print.
• Distance Scale Lanyard — The flat neck strap is printed with distance markings, including a 1:25k kilometer scale, so you can lay it along a winding trail on the map to measure the route.
• Two-Piece Lanyard Connector — A connector in the neck loop pulls apart, letting you unclip the lanyard without lifting it over your head.

Built For Map Work

Silva has packed the map tools onto the baseplate and the lanyard itself, so the Ranger 2.0 covers bearings, grid references and route measurement without extra gear. The transparent baseplate sits flat on a map with the detail showing through, and the scales cover both US 1:24k quads and metric 1:25k and 1:50k sheets. Closed, the black lid protects the mirror and capsule from scratches in a pack or pocket.
