Well the name says shorts not pants. Just get what fits you right and go. There's more room than regular pants. I don't know about those 71 BTU ratings. I think it might mean that a whole short or a pair won't hold a blow dryer, toaster or wok on your leg. I have't had any shorts melt on my leg, probably I don't know enough people. But the short fit me right. A little long but the draw string on each side held them up fine on all four seasons of the past two years and the ones to come for the next couple of years. Oh I had'em hemmed for looks. BUT I don't look or feel like it was hemmed, well you know if it was ever hemmed, there was a job of it and looks fine. That button at the button fly? I thought it was great idea at first until one popped off in the toilet. So there's only a zipper now and there's more room for when and if you go on any longer outings. But when I do that with all this area available, all it would take is one photo of that with what would normally be hidden with pants on. Don't do that and don't ask for any more ratings on this, because the military will want the info on how you plan to use these or whether they should relegate the wearing of them to private, or reserve troops and only send enlisted personnel to their duties with'em on or better yet a tux. It's not just what's going on in my butt that will go down in HIstory. Oh yea and the military wouldn't want me knowing how to write a review on these. You don't wear something in combat and want people seeing the material they're made of. The area between your crotch and legs has its own lining of material, because they make it and they know how you can or can't show it to everyone else or anyone else you may have on the spot anywhere from that same crotch to the upper ankle and they will make sure you can't. No no they don't just sew something on that looks or can open up or tear or something that

These shorts were made to order so I can't tell how well they'll hold up, but so far I'm pleased. I had an 18 2x to give them a little more length. The fabric feels a little thin, but the color's true to the picture. They fit a bit tight in the waist, so the button on the front is unnecessary, and there are straps on the sides that have extra loops so they won't slide down, which is a plus for me because I like to wear a belt. They are slightly baggy in the thighs, which I don't mind. They do look more rugged than my last pair, and feel more durable. All-in-all a decent pair of light-medium weight shorts for hot weather. The only downside is that because they're thinner than I expected, they will make the person wearing them a little warmer than he would be in regular denim shorts, so you'll probably need an undershort or some leg cooling product to make them comfortable in hot temperatures.

Nice, looks like the actual military issue BDUs, will wear these as casual shorts, for going out in public

size down for comfort and if you like a little bit of give when you move buy 1 size larger because they do not come with a drawstring for the fly

Nice pattern. Good quality. My fault, but wrong size as they run long, but my son loves them, as the size allows plenty of room. I'm a few inches taller than he is and it appears they run about 4" longer than stated size.

Nice but make them bigger or 6X not 5x that will make them bigger fit more like sweat shirt than pants

This was as an emergency purchase. Some shorts I was gonna order did not show up on time, I searched for another product on amazon that were still here. This shorts is the right one. Wash in cold with bleach in wash and you should be ok. Great short. No issues at all

Nice fit (L xL). I love to have a large assortment of clothing for outdoors wear. So when someone finds a comfortable and sturdy pair, I buy more. But if it falls short, the next purchase would be for the softness of man made fabric! The quality (for all Rothco clothing), and attention to comfort/convenience has become great. Their innovation has helped make a quality product with out over paying! It's nice to have pants and shorts in dark colors for long days outdoors or to use as an urban gear! You don't need all BDU for the various applications that can be used.

As I read the previous reviewers complaints, I thought I would be prepared. Unfortunately, this is a big issue for me. As others have said, these are not the same style or size as the USMC desert Digital Cargos (tan). Also, in reading many other comments about these "Jungle Digital" Cargo Shorts by Rothco I am convinced they have designed the two very differently. If you are familiar with Rothco then you know that they don't listen to what the consumer wants or how well a product sells. That said, and after having read so many reviews on this item, you have been warned. On to my issue. The design of the main compartment and accessory pockets make it almost impossible to sit without everything sliding out of them, or getting wedged in there and sticking out so you can't sit without all your crap falling out! Also these things fit great but the design doesn't lend itself to using the cargo loops to cinch them up to fit like I can do with other bdu cargo pants and shorts. It's not the design of military bdu's. The pants have tabs or loops that can be secured to make a snugger fit, these have pockets. So for what they are, not a true pair of shorts, and for how uncomfortable they are I will not order another pair, nor will I recommend these to anyone. You get what you pay for!

Very happy with this pair of shorts, have had several other pairs of rothco bdu shorts over the years and they all last well

They are made very well. Lots of pockets, they feel very light weight, even though they seem thick. They are a tad longer than I thought, I usually wear a 34-36 but they fit like a 38, with an adjustment in the sides to make them shorter. That's what they were like when I bought them. They have kept their shape, they haven't been ripped or faded. They don't fit tight at the waist, and the leg opening is a tad loose for me, even after cinching the sides down, I still can fit another foot in. The straps on the sides to cinch the waist are made of good material, but have loosened up a little, no biggie. These are comfortable and great for hot days.

Husband uses these for a night at the lake fishing and playing with his boys and he says these are very comfortable. Will order again

Fits well. Very comfy and breathable. No more sweaty knees and shorts sticking to my thighs. I love them.

It was hard to decide on the waist size to buy. Too small, but I could not see what I was getting in advance, I would order again.

Well-fitting, good-looking. The stitching looks good. Would buy again. Wash them like jeans.

They are shorts with lots of pockets. The sizes seem a little small but not unwearable. They do have a reinforced seat which I really like. They are a light fabric so if they were ripped I'm not sure I would repair them or not. The first one I got has been good but I will order another in another color. The other colors may be too much of a gamble.
