AR-15 Selector

Located on the left side of the lower receiver, the selector is a small switch that extends through the lower receiver, and is designed to switch between two fire settings – "safe" and "fire". By pointing the selector to "fire", the operator disengages the safety, making the rifle ready for fire. By pointing the selector to "safe", which can be done only if the hammer is cocked, the operator locks the trigger in place, ensuring that a discharge is unable to take place. The selector is held in place by the selector detent.
