M16 Replacement Hammer
The United Defense M-16 Hammer is a drop-in fire control part for rebuilding or repairing an M16-pattern trigger group. The hammer is the part that swings forward under spring tension and strikes the firing pin when you pull the trigger. A worn, chipped or rounded hammer notch can cause doubling, light strikes or a hammer that won't stay cocked, and a fresh hammer is the direct fix. It suits armorers, builders and owners who keep their own rifles running.
Features
- M16-Pattern Profile — The upper hook on the hammer's head is the M16 shape, the feature that engages the auto sear in a select-fire lower.
- Black Finish — A uniform black surface finish covers the body, with the working faces left clean where parts meet.
- Pivot Bushing — A raised sleeve surrounds the pivot hole, where the hammer pin passes through to hold the hammer in the receiver.
- Cocking Notch — The notch on the lower edge catches the trigger sear to hold the hammer back until you fire.
- Disconnector Hook — The hooked tip at the base of the curve catches the disconnector during the reset cycle so the rifle fires one shot per trigger pull in semi mode.
- Spring Groove — A slot around the pivot end gives the hammer spring legs a positive seat.
- Hammer Only — The part ships as the hammer alone, as shown, with no pin or spring included.
Fit and Installation
This hammer follows the M16 pattern, so it installs in the same position as the original part, using your existing hammer pin and hammer spring. Check that the spring legs sit correctly on the trigger pin before you close the receiver, and function-check the safety, trigger reset and disconnector after installation. If you are not comfortable working on fire control parts, have a qualified gunsmith fit it.

Nice for a hammer swapDropped this M-16 hammer into my lower last weekend and the sear hook engagement felt right on the money out of the box, no weird grinding or hangups when I cycled it dry.

Awesome hammer for the priceJust got this and installed it in my AR. Put about 200 rounds down range and it's performing flawlessly. The shipping was lightning fast, ordered on Monday had it by Wednesday. Definitely recommend for a budget build.

Proper Mil-Spec Hammer, Finally Got One RightIve been chasing down correct mil-spec M16 fire control parts for my registered receiver build and this hammer is spot on. The hook engagement surface where it catches the auto sear is properly ground and the geometry is correct... not like some of the aftermarket stuff floating around on GunBroker that's cast and out of spec. Hardened steel, parkerized finish looks correct, and the sear engagement is crisp with no slop. Compared to the Luth-AR M16 hammer (which comes with the J spring included), this one doesn't ship with a spring but honestly I already had spares so that wasn't an issue for me. Installed it alongside the correct disconnector and auto sear in my registered M16 lower and it runs like a sewing machine. Don't cheap out on surplus hammers from SARCO that have wear on the sear hooks get a new manufacture one like this.
