East German Leather Helmet Liner
This is an original East German Army leather helmet liner intended for the M56/76 Stahlhelm, the iconic steel helmet worn by the Nationale Volksarmee throughout the Cold War. The liner features the classic six-tongue leather crown attached to a grey plastic adjustable cradle, with yellow foam cushion pads at the front and rear and a drawstring at the dome for fitting. Surplus production keeps the construction and materials true to original DDR specifications. Exactly What I Needed For ReenactingI do Cold War reenacting and my M56 shell was fine but the liner had that old musty surplus smell and the foam was starting to flake off everywhere. This replacement liner bolted right in and now I can actually wear the thing for a full event without it feeling gross on my head. SUPER happy to have my helmet back in rotation.
