East German MP Helmet Cover

East German MP Cover

This white and orange cover was made for East German military police, the Militärstreife, who handled traffic control and security duties for the country's armed forces. It fits over the M56/76 steel helmet and marks the wearer as MP at a glance, with the GDR state emblem on the front. It is a genuine Cold War issue piece for collectors of East German kit, reenactors portraying military police, and anyone completing an NVA helmet display.

Features

• Military Police Issue — Made for the Militärstreife, the East German military patrol and traffic police, so it identified MPs on duty from a distance.
• Fits The M56/76 Helmet — Shaped for the M56/76, the later version of the distinctive East German steel helmet with its sloped skirt.
• White Lightweight Shell — The white fabric body covers the crown and sides of the helmet and stands out in traffic and at checkpoints.
• Orange Identification Band — A bright orange band is stitched around the circumference for added visibility.
• Embroidered GDR Emblem — The front carries the East German state emblem, a hammer and compass inside a wreath of grain, embroidered on a black, red and gold shield patch.
• Elasticated Lower Edge — A gathered elastic hem pulls the cover snug under the helmet rim so it stays put.
• Removable Design — The cover slips on and off, so the helmet underneath can return to standard use without repainting.
• Authentic Cold War Provenance — Originally issued East German government gear, not a modern piece made to look the part.

Issue and Specification

East German military police were once identified by white stripes painted directly on their helmets. Fabric covers like this one later took over that job, and they also protected the helmet's painted surface. The construction is simple: a white fabric shell, an orange band sewn around it, the embroidered state emblem on the front and an elastic edge to hold it on. Pair it with an M56/76 helmet for an accurate Militärstreife impression or display.
